Christmas In Korea

The Lord has filled my heart with Joy! ( 1 Sam. 2:1)

Prayers for Every Day

Prayers for Every Day

An Opening Prayer

Hear, O Israel: the Lord is our God, the Lord is One!

Blessed is his glorious kingdom for ever and ever!

Baruch atah Adonai Elohaynu melech ha-olam

Blessed are you, Lord our God, ruler of the universe,
opening the eyes of the blind.

Blessed are you, Lord our God, ruler of the universe,
clothing the naked.

Blessed are you, Lord our God, ruler of the universe,
setting captives free.

Blessed are you, Lord our God, ruler of the universe,
guiding our footsteps.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 - The Shema (part 1)

Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.

You shall love the Lord your God
with all your heart, and with all your soul,
and with all your might.

Take to heart these instructions with which I charge you this day.
Impress them upon your children.
Recite them when you stay at home,
and when you are away,
when you lie down and when you get up.
Bind them as a sign on your hand
and let them serve as a symbol on your forehead;
inscribe them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Invitatory – Psalm 95

O Lord, open my lips.
and my mouth will proclaim your praise.

Come let us sing to the Lord
and shout with joy to the rock that saves us.

Let us approach him with praise and thanksgiving
and sing joyful songs to the Lord.

The Lord is God, the almighty God,
the great king over all the gods.

He holds in his hands the depths of the earth.
and the highest mountains as well.
He made the sea; it belongs to him,
the dry land, too, for it was formed by his hand.

Come, then, let us bow down and worship,
bending the knee before the Lord, our maker.
For he is our God and we are his people,
the flock he shepherds.

Today, listen to the voice of the Lord:
Do not grow stubborn, as your fathers did in the wilderness,
When at Meriba at Massah
they challenged me and provoked me,
Although they had seen all of my works.

Forty years I endured that generation.
I said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray
and they do not know my ways.”
So, I swore in my anger,

“They shall not enter into my rest.”

Glory to the father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.
Amen.

Benedictus / Canticle of Zachariah

Possible melodies: ‘O God Our Help in Ages past’

'Where Charity and Love prevail’

'We Walk By Faith’

'Amazing Grace'

Now bless the God of Israel,

Who comes in love and pow’r,
Who raises from the royal house

Deliv’rance in this hour.

Through holy prophets God has sworn

To free us from alarm,

To save us from the heavy hand
Of all who wish us harm.

Remembering the covenant,
God rescues us from fear.

That we might serve in holiness

And peace from year to year.

And you, my child shall go before
To preach, to prophesy,
That all may know the tender love,

The grace of God most high.

In tender mercy, God will send

The dayspring from on high,

Our rising sun, the light of life

For those who sit and sigh.

God comes to guide our way to peace,

That death shall reign no more.

Sing praises to the Holy One!

O worship and adore!

Magnificat / Canticle of Mary

Possible melodies: ‘O God Our Help in Ages past’

'Where Charity and Love prevail’

'We Walk By Faith’

'Amazing Grace'

My soul proclaims the Lord my God,

My spirit sings his praise.

He looks on me, he lifts me up,

And gladness fills my days.

All nations now will share my joy;

His gifts he has outpoured.

His little one he has made great.

I magnify the Lord.

For those who love his holy name,

His mercy will not die.

His strong right arm puts down the proud,

And lifts the lowly high.

He fills the hungry with good things;

The rich he sends away.

The promise made to Abraham

is filled to endless days.

Glory, be to our Father God,
And to his Son, our Lord.
And praise be to the Spirit who
Proceeds forth from their love!

Nunc Dimittis / Canticle of Simeon

Possible melodies: ‘O God Our Help in Ages past’

'Where Charity and Love prevail’

'We Walk By Faith’

'Amazing Grace'

Lord, Bid your servant go in peace,

Your word is now fulfilled.

These eyes have seen salvation's dawn

This child so long foretold.

This is the Savior of the world,

The gentiles' promised light,

God's glory dwelling in our midst,

The joy of lsrael.

This child shall see the rise, the fall,

Of those in lsrael,

God's sign raised high for all to see,

Whom some shall yet deny.

His mother's soul a sword shall pierce,

Of sorrow keen and deep;

And secret thoughts of many hearts

Through him shall be revealed.

Blest be our God who freely gave

One's own to be our Lord,

Blest too that Son, and with them both

The Spirit of their love.

Salve Regina

Salve Regina, Mater misericordiae,
Vita dulcedo et spes nostra salve.
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Hevae.
Ad te suspiramus gementes et flentes,
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eja ergo advocata nostra,
illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte.
Et Jesum benedictum fructum ventris tui
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, o pia, o dulcis Virgo Maria

A Morning Offering

O Jesus,
through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer You my prayers, works,
joys and sufferings of this day
in union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass
throughout the world.
I offer them for all the intentions
of Your Sacred Heart,
the salvation of souls,
the reparation for sins,
the reunion of all Christians.
I offer them for the intentions of our Holy Father,
and all our bishops.

Amen.

Unceasing Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ,
Son of the living God,
have mercy on me,
a wretched sinner.

The Lorica of St. Patrick (edited)

I arise today

Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,

Through a belief in the Threeness,

Through confession of the Oneness

Of the Creator of creation.

I arise today

Through the strength of Christ's birth and His baptism,

Through the strength of His crucifixion and His burial,

Through the strength of His resurrection and ascension,

I arise today

In the prayers of patriarchs,

In preachings of the apostles,

In faiths of confessors,

In deeds of righteous men and women.

I arise today through the strength of Heaven

the rays of the sun,

the radiance of the moon,

the splendor of fire,

the speed of lightening,

the swiftness of the wind,

the depth of the sea,

the stability of the earth

the firmness of rock.

I arise today through the power of God:

God's might to comfort me,

God's wisdom to guide me,

God's eye to look before me,

God's ear to hear me,

God's word to speak for me,

God's hand to lead me,

God's way to lie before me,

God's shield to protect me,

God's Heavenly Host to save me

from the snares of the devil,

from temptations to sin,

from all who wish me ill,

from near and afar,

alone and with others.

May Christ shield me today

against all dangers

so that I may fulfill my mission

and bear fruit in abundance.

Christ behind and before me,

Christ behind and above me,

Christ with me and in me,

Christ around and about me,

Christ on my right and on my left,

Christ when I lie down at night,

Christ when I rise in the morning,

Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,

Christ in the mouth of everyone that speaks of me,

Christ in every eye that sees me,

Christ in every ear that hears me.

A Prayer at Communion

Let this reception of your sacred body and blood be not for my condemnation or fault, but for the healing of soul and body.

An Act of Contrition

O, my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you. I detest all my sins because of your just punishment, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

Peace Prayer inspired by St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

Christopher Prayer

Father, grant that I may be a bearer of Christ Jesus, Your Son. Allow me to warm the often cold, impersonal scene of modern life with Your burning love. Strengthen me by Your Holy Spirit to carry out my mission of changing the world or some definite part of it for the better. Despite my lamentable failures, bring home to me that my advantages are Your blessings to be shared with others.

Make me more energetic insetting right what I find wrong with the world instead of complaining about it. Nourish in me a practical desire to build up rather than tear down, to reconcile instead of polarize, to go out on a limb rather than crave security. Never let me forget that it is far better to light one candle than to curse the darkness, and to join my light, one day, with Yours. Amen.
